Oakville Winery DDR 2022, Napa Valley, California Purple in color with a wide purplish/ reddish rim. Fruity nose of red fruits with earth, light oak, spices and chocolate notes. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, coffee, licorice, herbs and peppercorn. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy pomegranates. This is a very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Complex and interesting, spicy and tangy. Still young and needs 5 to 7 years in the bottle to mature properly. Feels like a Right Bank Bordeaux, at this point. Easy drinking, and a good sipping wine that also paired nicely with my chicken kebab. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. 14.1% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.

Rich red in color with medium plus intensity. Fruit forward on the nose with red fruits and light oak. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing red cherries, raspberries, herbs, coffee, light oak, chocolates and peppercorn. Nice finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This 7 year old Barolo is already drinking very nicely, but still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Spicy and entertaining. Easy drinking and engaging. Elegant with good structure. Nicely balanced and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. 100% Nebbiolo grapes were aged in large oak barrels for 3 years. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $60.

Pretty color of ruby with a wide brick rim. Nose of red fruits, tobacco leaf, light wood, spices, coffee, black pepper, vegetables and herbs. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with raspberries, fresh cherries, spices, light oak and espresso. Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries. This is a nice 11 year old Barolo. A little tight right out of the bottle, and needed 90 minutes of airtime. Fruity on the nose and earthy on the palate. Elegant and soft. Still feels very young and would be nice to revisit it in a few years. Not as complex as I expected it to be, but showed a beautiful nose once it opened up. Not balanced at this point, and a little tart for me. Could be this specific bottle though. 100% Nebbiolo grapes were aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $50.

Smith-Madrone Vineyards Spring Mountain District Chardonnay 2021, Napa Valley, California Light yellow in color with a golden hue. Strong nose of yellow apples, light cedar, fresh apricots, light toasted nuts and spices. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with limes, apples, grapefruits, bitter herbs, light earth, honey, spices and white pepper. Long finish with lemons and light herbs. This young Chardonnay from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully right out of the bottle. Elegant, rich and tasty. Nicely balanced and fruit forward. Juicy and entertaining, with light oak notes to compliment the fruits. Spicy and refreshing. Complex and engaging, and better when not too cold. I had a few vintages of this wine, and it always delivers. This vintage seems to be much more approachable young. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a beautiful day by the pool. 100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in (50% new) French Oak barrels for 10 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $45.

Very fruity on the palate with cooked plums, cherries, blackberries, dried figs, black pepper, raisins, light cedar, chocolates, herbs, spices and light vegetables. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 10-year-old Lodi Petite Sirah is still drinking nicely, but is giving Amarone vibes. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime. Still very enjoyable, but I wish I would have opened it a couple of years ago. The high alcohol is very noticeable at this point.
