Eric H. Cline

Hi Ian- archaeologist here... huge debates about that time period. Civilizations evolved and changed- did not disappear. I recommend both of Eric Clines outstanding books (1177BC and after collapse). We are moving away from "collapse" and now use "transformation".

Just started reading Eric Cline’s 1177BC about the Bronze Age ‘collapse’. Chapter 1 describes how the Sea Peoples weren’t one mob but actually at least 6 or 7 different peoples with different dress, hair, cultures etc. Here we see some in feathered headdresses & others fighting the Egyptians by sea

Yep. Agreed. Not a complete collapse of known civilized world. I have read those letters in 1177bc. The world was ending.

1177BC, and After 1177BC, are both great reads.

I just finished #reading these #books: #1177BC & #After1177BC by #EricHCline
Over the last couple weeks I've been reading these books about the Bronze Age collapse. Perfect for #History nerds like me. If you are a fan of ancient history, I recommend both of these.

O/t but After 1177BC was fantastic (and of course I got audio, digital, and the physical like I did with 1177BC)

📚💙 1177BC, The Year Civilization Collapsed. The best and most convincing theory yet of the collapse of the Bronze Age in the Mediterranean.

There's a graphic version of 1177BC that I read with my son. It's been an education for us both.

I really liked the Odyssey. Also, I happened to read 1177BC recently and I’d guess Nolan did too.

I’m reading 1177BC right now!

I decided I wanted to have moderately informed views on the Sea Peoples after the Odyssey discussions.

Frederic Raphael’s Byron biography was fun, way back. Better angels of our nature by Pinker. Guns germs and steel by diamond. 1491 by Charles Mann. 1177BC by Eric Cline. Frederick the Great by Tim Blanning. Any of Francis Wheen’s books. Vanished kingdoms by Norman Davies. When was wales? Etc etc

Archaeology teaches us that we are not immune to extinction. We have evolved to anticipate and respond to changes and threats in our environment, and the evolution of science best represents this survival skill.

We still have a little time left to choose our future, folks.⌛

Fallen ancient civilizations show us why we must not ignore climate warnings
In 1177BC, Amurapi, the last king of Ugarit in modern-day Syria, wrote in cuneiform on baked clay to the Hittite emperor Suppiluliuma II: "My father behold, the enemy's ships have come; my cities were...

Read Eric Cline’s 1177BC a while ago and just started his followup, After 1177 today and it’s great. Among other things though how is there not a movie about Ramses III? Defeating the Sea Peoples only to die during the Harem Conspiracy? Writes itself honestly.
