#1MHz
Pulling my hair out trying to find how i'm exactly *32* 1mhz cycles out over each 50hz frame. VIA and display are in sync.
On top of that, every few seconds (500-2000ms about) there's a massive jump in the palette change- no, it's not an extra interrupt. So what is it?!
Timing is spot on here! I must confess it's not actually fixed for 2 reasons: 1) I calculated I was 64 cycled out on the VIA clock somehow- so manually cycled the VIA, and boom, theory confirmed. 2) every few seconds a rogue interrupt throws everything out of whack!

This modder is porting games to FastROM - cartridge ROM that is clocked ~ 1MHz faster. Because FastROM was slightly more expensive, some publishers went with SlowROM to reduce costs. See: Disney's Aladdin.

Swapping the ROM speed and making a small fix to the RNG resolves 90%+ of slowdown.

Someone had a go at this machine it seems- scratched motherboard, damaged traces, wrecked 1mhz bus pins- I've tidied it up. Ultimately though the instability appears to be voltage, nothing difficult to resolve, yay!

Cleaned up and confirmed the user port, 1mhz bus and tube are all now working properly.

Voltages are a tad low, causing the instability, so I'll get that sorted.

One of the Pi Zeroes I was using was completely dead (found out because I touched it and it burnt my fingers!!!)

Also the frequencies are around 1mhz so they are really only good for voice and text like messaging from a limited number of people. There is no bandwidth for anything more

This bad girl doing 1MHz and around 5k of RAM. Plus a cassette player after a couple years so I could start saving my work.

Getting somewhere with the SRP2000 but I don't think I'll be able to play with it on-air in trunked mode sadly.

It's TG-band (400-433MHz), of which only the top 3MHz overlaps with the amateur band here. None of the ETSI-standardised duplex spacings allow for 1MHz split (the lowest is 5MHz) and […]

No, it's the MOS 8502. When in C64 mode it runs as a 6510 at 1MHz. In C128 mode it runs as 8502 CPU at 2MHz.

Then it gets interesting. In the early days of AM radio spectrum was limited to 1MHz or so with 20kHz channels.

But as technology evolved FM stations could use spectrum to 108MHz (all of a sudden 100x the spectrum)

Now 5GHz cell phones

Electromagnetic spectrum was never actually “limited”

At ~1mhz the 6850 interupt has been more or less synonymous with a byte ready. At 8mhz it seems it's not, so I've had to put in a little poll of the status register for when it *really* means it's serving up data, but apart from that all working now as required.

I really miss my C64. Instant bootup, no endless junk programs, etc. 1Mhz was fine for word-processing, the computer still spend most of its time waiting for me to hit the next key. And I type 75wpm. It just needed more memory, both RAM and external. And my Amiga! Great computer.

It seems like wasteful overkill, there's a 1mhz attiny but the Bluetooth module DAC is orders of magnitude faster than the host machine, it's absurd.

It helps that the power consumption is really low even at full beans so it's more wildly over specced than wasteful in the classic sense. 🙂
