"Freedom is the soil where creativity grows."
April 25: honoring the courage that replaced silence with red carnations. A reminder that our voice is our greatest asset.
Let’s never take it for granted.

Portugal celebrating end of colonial wars and dictatorship, gather around a Portuguese-(angolan) soldier, with a carnation knife his chest, rifle in hand. A child kissed his cheek. Everyone is smiling widely.

April 25th in Portugal. A revolution without war. Soldiers with carnations in their rifles. A nation that said: enough. On this day in 1974, Portugal toppled its dictatorship not with blood, but with music, marching, and collective defiance. The Carnation Revolution remains one of the rare moments in history where liberation arrived not through destruction, but through refusal—of fear, silence, obedience. What does this mean in 2025? It means remembrance is not static. It means history is not a graveyard of dates, but a live wire through which we confront the present. Vel’ d’Hiv was the opposite of April 25. It was silence instead of song. Obedience instead of resistance. Administration instead of justice. But both are part of the same question: What is the threshold between duty and complicity? When does a system protect—and when does it persecute? April 25 reminds us that the gears of injustice can be stopped. That refusal is also a form of construction. That dignity is not granted—it is reclaimed. The past does not repeat. It insists. And today, it whispers: "What will you do with your freedom?" — Joffrey Baeyaert April 25th in Portugal. Today marks the 51st anniversary of a truly pivotal moment in Portuguese history: the Carnation Revolution on April 25th. This remarkably peaceful revolution, which unfolded 51 years ago, successfully overthrew the authoritarian Estado Novo regime. Now commemorated as Dia da Liberdade (Freedom Day), April 25th is a national public holiday in Portugal, filled with vibrant celebrations across the country. We extend our warmest wishes to all our Portuguese friends on this significant day. Thinking back, just three years ago, @Suzy Starlite and I had the distinct honour of performing at the celebratory concert held in the main square of Samora Correia, our hometown at the time. It was a truly special experience to be part of such a meaningful commemoration. Today's anniversary serves as a powerful reminder to all of us about the incredible strength and impact of collective action in the face of an authoritarian regime. The Carnation Revolution stands as an inspiring example of how a determined populace can bring about profound change through peaceful means.
