In 94 I was graduating high school and starting college and built a 486dx2-66, but I first started with Linux on my AMD 386DX40 before that. I miss those days.

It was 1992.

386DX40, 4Mb ram (huuuuge), 105 Mb HDD, Windows 3.1, CRT VGA monitor that weighed 2 metric tons and took up half an acre of desk space. No other software to clutter up your hard drive and all for the measly sum of $3000.

And I was half-old then.

oh my gosh! I still remeber the name -- Acumos AVGA2 (with 512K memory! drivers for Win 3 and WordPerfect 5 on 5'25)))

that's the card I've got with my 1st ever PC (386DX40 4M RAM 120 Mb HDD) in 1993

Updated (in this context downgraded) the setup: 386DX40, 14" CRT, IBM Model M keyboard, an old Logitech mouse, SB 16 Vibra, and a Gravis gamepad

Nous c'est un 386DX40. Toujours fonctionnel comme je le disais.

Even with the latest patches some DOOM levels were unplayable on my 386DX40. I especially remember one, can't remember the name, that was a big outdoors area with a ton of cacodemons. Completely unplayable.

Ego-Shooter: „Return to Castle Wolfenstein“ fliegt vom Index
24 Jahre nach Release ist „Return to Castle Wolfenstein“ in Deutschland nicht mehr indiziert. In den Spiele-Stores gibt es den Ego-Shooter aber noch nicht.

Nice! I dabbled with Slackware on a 386dx40. Many discs. CLI only; wasn't able to configure X Window.

Better than my 1993 setup. I had a 386DX40 with 8 MB and 150 MB harddrive. No CD ROM. No soundcard. And only a 14400 bps modem.

This makes me wanna get a 486dx4-100 to run it, because the 386dx40 (with FPU) isn't fast enough to do it justice :(
Dug into Flight Simulator 5.1 after listening to an old DOS Nostalgic podcast about civilian flight sims. Still a really pretty sim for the era and a huge step up from 4.0's EGA graphics.

RIP Meig's Field. Whose runway was demolished overnight without warning by the Chicago mayor of the time.

Yeah, university of applied science for me... Doom LAN parties with 386DX40, Soundblaster and Voodoo, HP-UX boxes in the lab... we have some way behind us. 😎🎸🍻
