Just got an update on a report from West Midlands Police (most reports don't get updates now) with a reference number just short of 21,000. #3rdPartyReporting continues to grow.

Using #3rdPartyReporting in the West Midlands makes me suspect that 18k is just the tip of the iceberg and true number is much larger.

Take local forces out of the equation entirely and have a national centre for actioning #3rdPartyReporting. For obstruction type incidents a phone app for reporting would be, imho, the most effective way of dealing with obstruction.

NYC has created an official reporting app for engine idling, it works well.
If the UK was serious about engine idling, and illegal parking, HMG would develop a similar app.
There are plenty of concerned citizens who would use it.

West Midlands Police have been sending FPNs (3 points and £100 fine) for parking on zig zags since they started taking #3rdPartyReporting seriously again but the last few I reported got driving courses.

Got an update on a #3rdPartyReporting report from West Midlands Police this morning, number 16133* so it looks like WMP have processed over 16k reports in the last 12 months. *I'm assuming this is the 16133rd report of 2024 since the number have steadily counted up from 04/01 when I got 0002.

We have a result on this one, driver accepted a community resolution requiring him to write me an apology (it's a pretty good apology too). He'd previously got points after being reported via #3rdPartyReporting, saw me and thought I looked familiar so threw a bottle at me. Video soon.

Easy to lose motivation but look at West Midlands Police. First to have #3rdPartyReporting which worked well for a time then they stopped processing incidents, after much fuss and publicity a new team was put in place and last year they processed > 16,000 reports with the majority being actioned.

Driver reported via #3rdPartyReporting got 6 points (I assume mobile phone use) so decides to throw a bottle at a random cyclist (he thought I looked familiar but wasn't really sure who'd previously reported him). He's now aware that there a consequences for throwing things too youtu.be/gxBtFrtSgk0

FOI request sent to West Midlands Police requesting the data for #3rdPartyReporting Operation Snap from April 2025 to date. I expect this request will be denied because it's exempt from the FOI act due to it being for future publication.

I was just saying to someone a couple of weeks back that I think there's been a real fall in drivers using mobile phones due to West Midlands Police #3rdPartyReporting prosecutions. Last few days it feels like everywhere I look there's a driver using a mobile phone.

It also looks like they started the year using 4 digits and required another digit in September. I knew there was demand for #3rdPartyReporting and it was fairly clear most people had given up on it but I didn't see this much demand - I don't think anyone did.
