Sailors - PLBs and EPIRBs work. Use them, test them, register them. Sure, get an AIS integrated beacon, but do not brush aside a 406MHz beacon because you’ve got an AIS beacon.

The SAR allocation is a downlink (relay of the 406MHz beacon signals) to high gain antennas at specific ground station sites. Not so vulnerable to interference

We've got a new RDF since that was taken too... New Rhotheta RT-500 that uses a SDR in the head unit, Synthetic Doppler to do the DF, and can DF and decode 406Mhz EPIRB uplinks.

Every time it leads to dangerous ideas spreading through the sailing community - AIS beacons are better or more effective than 406MHz beacons. It makes me want to smash my head against a desk.

- Wakacyjne polowanie na radiosondy meteorologiczne z Legionowa, Tarnowa, Wrocławia i Łeby, śledzone przez radiosondy.info oraz odbierane lokalnie bez internetu.
- Wykorzystano płytkę ESP32 LilyGO TTGO z LoRa SX1278 433MHz i firmware mysondygo, łączoną z aplikacją na smartfonie przez Bluetooth.
- SX1278 działał jako odbiornik FSK/GFSK/OOK w paśmie 400,15–406MHz, mimo że sondy nie używają LoRa ani nie nadają na 433MHz.
- Balon wznosi się prawie dwie godziny, osiąga ponad 30 km i po pęknięciu opada nawet 30 minut; zasięg i antena mocno wpływają na odbiór.
- Lokalizacja sond po upadku jest trudna, bo działają wyspecjalizowane grupy łowców, a lokalny odbiornik daje tylko niewielką przewagę.
