The iconic Northgate Shopping Center sign on Lake Street in Aurora, IL. A relic of the space age, built in 1956 and not illuminated for many years now.

The Northgate sign in green and red against a blue winter sky. The sign's neon is all broken and nonfunctional. Yellow stars punctuate each end of the large red 'S' shape. The metal of the sign is rusting, and the paint is peeling. Close-up of one of the yellow stars. The sides of the star are red, and a large rust hole is visible at the bottom of one of the star points.

Week #4 of 52Frames.
This is a collection of songs written by a French soldier in 1898. Every line of the text evokes the soldier's thoughts, emotions and experiences over a century ago (more details in the alt text)

#52frames #52frames_somethingold #photography #blackandwhite #monochrome #fujifilm
This evocative black-and-white photograph features a close-up of an open notebook resting atop a wooden travel chest covered with aged pork leather. The chest’s worn texture, with visible scuffs and patina, hints at its many years of use, complementing the historical weight of the scene. The notebook itself is the focal point, lying slightly askew with one page curling upward, inviting the viewer to explore its contents. The delicate gridlines on the paper serve as a framework for the carefully handwritten text. The cursive writing, penned in French, reveals itself as a collection of songs, written by a French soldier in 1898. Each line of script carries a sense of personal expression and meticulous care, evoking the soldier’s thoughts, emotions, and experiences from over a century ago. The sharp focus highlights the notebook's text and paper, while the shallow depth of field gently blurs the edges and background, drawing attention to the heart of the image. The chest beneath the notebook anchors the scene in a narrative of travel and duty, suggesting that this was a personal artifact carried during the soldier’s journeys or military campaigns. The monochrome tones emphasize the contrast between the textures: the smooth yet aged paper of the notebook, the dark, rugged surface of the leather chest, and the soft shadows playing across the scene. Together, these elements evoke a sense of nostalgia, as though the photograph offers a glimpse into the intimate and creative life of a soldier who sought solace or expression through music during a turbulent time. This poignant composition tells a story of history, resilience, and humanity. It invites the viewer to imagine the melodies behind the words, the soldier’s life during the late 19th century, and the enduring power of music as a means of connection and preservation. The image resonates with themes of memory, artistry, and the deeply personal ways individuals document their lives.

52 Frames Something Old: Ancient Volcanic Evil Lair?

My imagination runs wild. The best I can figure, this is a cypress knee or the remnant of a failed tree.

An old tree stump or cypress knee sticking out of a frozen stream of water at sunrise. It has some frost at the top and resembles a miniature volcano.

"Teddy" was gifted to me by my husband when we first started dating 40 years ago. The silk boutonniere is also old and is my husband's from our wedding 32 years ago. These are some of my precious mementos from the past. Love him!💜🐻

Is a camera from 2002 old enough to be considered "Old"?
I think so.

The shooting experience has improved, the megapixels have increased, and the weight has come down appreciably, but it STILL takes incredible images. R5, Know thy ancestor!
