Good organizing begets more organizing. Now it’s time for
West Virginia Campus Workers and WVU United Students Union to take up the mantle from the 55Strong teachers strikes and lead the way! Educators and students are showing up for the labor movement in full force.

2018: Rejecting the state's proposed 2% pay raise, and angry about the declining healthcare coverage for state employees, WV teachers - & their communities - engaged in a 9 day wildcat strike. Every public school in all 55 counties shut down. They won - a 5% raise for ALL state workers. #55Strong 🧵

They are determined to never have another #55strong occur.

Superintendents- "NO. They're not going back tomorrow." Everyone in the education system was together. #55strong #55United #wvteachersstrike

"I always thought of myself as a teacher. I'm not an activist. And my friend looks at me dead serious- you ARE. And I said, I am! I'm a teacher AND an activist!" #55strong #55United #wvteachersstrike

So many women led this movement. A lot of women led. #wvteachersstrike #55strong #55United y'all are so inspiring, West Virginia teachers and activists.

This is truly amazing in a labor movement that has traditionally been male led. #55strong #55United #wvteachersstrike #union #unionstrong

Coal left, and we looked in desperation. In West Virginia, something had to change. But instead of looking to a politician, we looked to each other. #55strong #55United #wvteachersstrike

West Virginia, Oklahoma next! We are a spark that will be fanned into a flame that spreads across! #wvteachersstrike #55strong #55United #strike

Moments like the #wvteachersstrike make me miss being a member of @CTULocal1 the Chicago Teachers Union, but makes me all the more inspired to fight with my current teachers union @UFT! #55United #55strong

A coalition for social justice oriented rank-and-file teacher unions formed a national network called @UCOREjustice. We will meet at @labornotes in Chicago Friday to discuss the latest wave of #teacherstrike #teacherwalkout #teachersickout. #55strong #oklahomateachers #kyteachers

Our students' school learning conditions are our teachers' working conditions. I support teachers who rally, strike, walk out, & sick-out across the world. #55strong #oklahomateachers #oklaedwalkout #teacherstrike #teacherwalkout #teachersickout #kyteachers #wvteacherstrike

West Virginia teachers at @UCOREjustice talking about how healthcare affected 1 in 9 public workers, and that previous generations of labor activism and history buoyed teachers and public workers to wildcat strike #55strong #wvteachers
