Cat's Paw Nebula (NGC 6334) a massive emission nebula and star forming region located ~4,370 ly away in Scorpius

It features large structures resembling "toe beans" where young stars are forming

This week’s image is of NGC 6334, the Cat’s Paw Nebula! This emission nebula’s red glow is due to light from the enshrouded stars exciting the surrounding gas. Check out the 🧵 for papers featuring nebulae

Another beauty from this morning. the Cat's Paw Nebula (NGC 6334). An emission nebula ~90 light years across, 5,500 light years away in Scorpius. Presence of ionised hydrogen atoms makes it red/orange. A stellar nursery with a high rate of new stars being born. #SeeStar S50 #Ipoh #Perak #Malaysia

The well-named Cat’s Paw Nebula (a.k.a. NGC 6334) in the constellation of Scorpius.

Although it appears close to the centre of the Milky Way on the sky, it is relatively near to Earth, at a distance of about 5500 light-years
