#7MHz
Today I made a short game in Turbo Pascal on this 7MHz CPU computer.

Been catching out the demoscene prods from the last Revision demoscene in April, and have been wowed by 'Second Nature' (DESIRE/The Twitch Elite and Hoffman).

This is an A500 OCS single-disk prod, created for the humblest 1MB 7mhz Amigas, always the most impressive to me.

The rundown:

I'm working on some secret projects. My non-secret side project is Magicore Anomala, a bullet hell game. Release TBA. It's 100% coded in Assembly language and runs on 7MHz computers from 1985 (Amiga). The engine and build tools will be open source. Latest demo vid: youtu.be/xIYrhKHEPEA

"Eon" by The Black Lotus is still one of the most insane demos ever created. This runs on a stock A500. 512kb Chip RAM + 512kb Slow RAM, on a 7MHz CPU. It should not be fucking possible. TBL are way up there in terms of ability

I'm absolutely amazed that this game runs WELL on my 7mhz 1mb RAM Amiga 500. How is this even possible??

Nice to work Gav on 7MHz FT8 this morning. @zl3gav.bsky.social #hamradio #hamr #ft8

Over the last couple of days around 1530 UTC I have been having fun looking for West Coast Canada and USA on 7MHz via the long path. Heard it was possible years ago but I’ve never made contacts over that path. Brilliant fun.

"Eon" is a truly OFFENSIVE amount of high polygon math for a 7MHz computer with basically under 1MB of RAM.

To put that into perspective, your smartphone is like 500-1000 times more powerful than the Amiga 500.

TBL basically figured out how to turn the Blitter chip into a GPU. Insane

Like someone made this with 7MHz and 512kb of RAM

Good tests could identify timing down to a single cycle - but that's not enough; you need to understand multiple clock domains. If the CPU is 7MHz and the video is 5MHz, the behaviour at the edge isn't obvious. It seemed stochastic or quantum, from a program's perspective.

There's a lot packed into this large room and it drops well below 25fps on a 7Mhz machine when everything gets going. I think I'll do some profiling next and see if where it's coming from as the rooms in these later zones are generally busy.

Myös täällä 40m/7MHz antennia oli sabotoitu. Syyllistä saa tosin jahdata vasta yli kuukauden kuluttua.

I always forget it wasn't a true 16-bit machine. But it turns out if you crank a 6502 up to 7MHz and give it some great graphics hardware, it can really boogie.

Why is the Amiga version slower? Because of the 7Mhz clock?

7mhz.. Nahh. 28mhz... YEAH!!! 👍

Phew. Completed a major puzzle sequence in #Lumo #Amiga that I thought I'd have to leave out. Reworked it to fit into 7Mhz, and now there's just a few fairly straightforward rooms to add in Zone 6 before we're down to the final three zones. Cripes!

I'm happy to see the Agilent VSA that i've been using to prop up Annies cat tree still works,

it's only 6 years out of cal, which is not too bad, lmao.

I doubt it will latch that fast. Wait states are likely the ticket here - or just slow the entire machine down to 7Mhz.

Slower is easier to do and is less complex to describe the function of.

My favorite way to spend a morning; assembling things.
A little 40M (7MHz) receiver today.

@lardratboy.bsky.social I implemented LucasArts-style palette management (where `VAR_EGO` gets 10 colors and all other actors share part of the room palette), precomputed row and column maps and gave unscaled costumes a fast path.

6 FPS on a 7MHz 68000 now. Getting there.
