my findings for usb4 vs oculink - you get like 3 more fps with the latter but it's got too many gotchas. i don't see it becoming a long lived standard, usb4 2.0 apparently has a max throughput of 80gbps which will be more than enough

120Gbps is uni-directional (i.e. for display port). Max theoretical PCIe passthrough is 80Gbps but in practice closer to 50Gbps. You can boot from a TB5 drive so I assume swap works from there too.

the one really fucked up thing is that the initial USB4 spec limited USB traffic to 20Gbps so a 40Gbps USB device that isn't a dock or PCIe bridge will be silently limited to 20Gbps on 99% of hardware that doesn't support 80Gbps. but that's kind of moot because afaik nobody is making chips for that
