ABDSP continues to be littered with helium-filled mylar balloons, bought and released at the coast. Balloons ascend up the mountains and drift back down into the desert as they deflate. www.change.org/banmylarball...

The record breaking March heatwave continued with a high of 106F yesterday recorded at the official ABDSP park headquarters weather station. Some hardy plants on the desert floor (like these prairie sunflowers on a dune in the Borrego Badlands) have not yet dried up from the heat.

There's one saguaro thriving in the wild in ABDSP, even though it's way out of the range of saguaro cacti. The only other known saguaro within park boundaries is at a homestead monument that is watered by humans.(Photos: Sicco Rood).

Peninsular Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis nelsoni).

With a combination of random luck and good timing one can encounter the Desert Bighorn Sheep while hiking in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. It was such an amazing and chance encounter!
