the thing is they're not actually contradicting themselves. it's not that puritans do see the difference between fact and fiction when convinient, it's that fiction is *more important* to them. threatening someone is stronger than hurting them, lolis are worth protecting but real kids aren't
a lot of people who are insisting that fiction and reality can't be separated are posting threats of violence against me in a joking tone, in a manner that implies they don't actually intend to follow through on it & understand that it's just words
