#AEMC
More renewables will bring prices down, a slower transition will send them up, the AEMC says in a blunt reminder for those still keen sweating coal and going harder on gas.

It is persistently fascinating to me that rapid data centre expansion threatens the *exact* same type of blackout related to the 2016 South Australia blackouts that changed climate and energy politics essentially permanently in Aus

And it gets zero attention 🫠

Australian households could cut their bills by two thirds by going fully electric according to new modelling but claims widespread electrification will lower power prices across the board are a little rosy.

AEMC just ruled poles-and-wires monopolies can charge EVERY household for EV chargers, "market failure" meaning "private companies were competing too well." $1/year they say. Nothing in Australian infrastructure pricing has ever stayed at $1/year. Oz is the monopoly paradise.

Sure, we had "discussions" and some politicians made hay after Parkland or Southerland Springs or Tree of Life or Emanuel AEMC in Charlotte. But the sunset of the 1994 AWB started what Sandy Hook finished. There is no gun control debate in the US.

This #abcnews headline feeds into Dutton's narrative that electricity prices are going up under Labor. Reading the article, an alternative headline would be:

'AEMC takes steps to ensure customers have more control over new electricity tariffs'

I wonder why they didn't go with this.

The AEMC forecasts average household energy costs will fall by about 20 per cent, or $1000 a year, over the next decade under a coordinated renewables rollout. Fully electric households deploying solar and storage could slash costs by as much as 70 per cent. satpa.pe/axqAbUo
