So i know anybody going to AFCI this weekend?
I wonder if North America's low-voltage power supply is the original sin driving a ton of inefficiencies in our electrical codes compared to the rest of the world's, in the same way that light wood frame construction is. Inspired by reading the AFCI Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arc-fau...

Yeah same, this will be my first afci. Sadly not in main but I’ll be getting there thurs night. But yeah will be good to run into you, and see the new suit!

I just ordered a replacement AFCI breaker switch from home depot using instacart, never been so sick to my stomach.

It’s fine… just about everything requires gfci/afci breakers now, so you don’t need gfci outlets

Have AFCI breakers we were forced to install because of a house remodel. At least a couple circuits they trip immediately, and another one that regularly trips it. I suspect neutrals tied together somewhere. It is not a ground fault. I should try a GFCI breaker in the one and see if it works better.

Faults like this are apparently why the USA and Canada made arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCI) mandatory on new residential construction about 10 years ago.
Had a ~10-year-old extension cord fail in a rather spectacular fashion. Sparks were flying out of it after burning through the plastic sheath.
I'm glad it happened in front of me so I could respond immediately, and I'm very glad it wasn't next to anything highly flammable.

240V appliances (stoves, dryers, welding setups, EV L2 chargers) have too much voltage variance. In the ADU we just finished (and in which I live🎉), we switched out the breakers the day after CO so I could cook and dry clothes.
