Nearly all of Alaska was overall warmer than normal for October, and this was a top-ten warmest at Kotzebue and Nome. At Utqiaġvik, this was the 25th consecutive October with the average temp above normal. Temperatures along the Gulf of Alaska coast were close to normal. #akwx #Climate

One of the most dramatic climate change time series there is: with the abrupt loss of nearshore sea ice, October average temperatures at Utqiaġvik are confined to a narrow range. Oct 2026 doesn't even rate, but before 2004 this would have been the third warmest Oct of record. #akwx #Arctic #Climate

( #NWSFairbanks): Here's a glimpse of seasonal phenomenon here in Interior #Alaska! As we approach the #solstice, the sun angle is low enough to cast Mt. McKinley's shadow. This shadow can be up to 50 miles long and is longest during sunrise/set (1st photo credit to #k2aviation) #AKwx #wx #wxsky

Sea ice extent in the Chukchi Sea was lower on Halloween than two weeks prior for only the second time since 1979. Current ice extent is well below 2025 and near the 1991-2020 median in NSIDC data. Bering Sea effectively ice free at the end of October, first time since 2020. #akwx #Arctic #SeaIce

( #NWSFairbanks): With less than 50 days until the Winter Solstice, #Alaska is entering its DARKEST stretch. Utqiaġvik sees its LAST #sunset Nov 18, beginning 66 DAYS of polar night. Our low winter sun angle means much of our state will experience weeks/months without functional solar heating. #AKwx
