These are the spore producing structures of a fungus. Extensive fungal networks in healthy soils are necessary for good plant growth, but we don't see these fungi working.

#AMomentinNature was sunrise in St. Augustine, FL. The sea oats (Uniola paniculata) are tough, salt-tolerant plants with extensive root systems that can survive in the harsh conditions on beaches.

#AMomentinNature was seeing that this Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) monitoring speed of cars in our bird-friendly neighborhood with its tall trees & an assortment of lakes. Its call is a loud, clear whistle. It's native to the SE states and to Coastal California.
