The seabirds’ population has drastically dropped in recent years. But there may be hope for them yet
Spare a thought for the European shag
But other seabirds off Britain’s coast are showing signs of resilience

Plastic pollution is leaving its mark on our seabirds. 🌊🐦

A major study examining records from 93,281 seabirds across 240 species has revealed how widespread plastic pollution has become, with plastic being found in 76% of the seabird species studied. 🔴

#Gulls are shameless food thieves — a caught fish isn't really yours until it's swallowed.

Ever watched a gull steal a meal mid-air?

Spent a couple of hours this morning in awe of seabirds! It was blowing a gale at Portland Bill & I was sheltering behind boulders while the large numbers of seabirds made flying look effortless! I'm no seawatcher so apart from the Gannets have no idea of IDs but they were amazing! #PortlandBirding

These are normal scenes in Scotland's salmon factories.

Wildlife pays the price too. Wild salmon, seabirds, seals and even dolphins are among the victims of this industry.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Jan van Franeker last week. Seeing Jan talk at the 2006 @theseabirdgroup.bsky.social conference was where I first heard about plastics being a problem for seabirds, so it doesn't get much more foundational than that.
