#APGOV
I teach all Social Studies to HS students & college freshmen. Depending on the college, an APUSH test taker can score a 3, 4, or 5 on the assessment to not have to take the college version. Many students who need financial aid like the savings, but APUSH and APGov have eroded civic education & duty.

I'm fully expecting the APUSH or APGOV class my kids end up taking in the 2050s is going to have some incredibly stupid shit like this in it and I'm gonna end up being the reason they fail the AP test because I will not abide by poor historiography in my household
that's why we have to survive as long as possible. because someone has to call bullshit when a historian airhead does their usual chin-stroking "trump was not a real person, but rather a metaphor" routine
my friend has been saying this since 2021

Day Fourteen - 187days
Mr. JL and Mr. F joined my APGOV class this morning for my students’ presentations, and it was awesome to have them there. Each group of students introduced themselves, read the policy memo they’d crafted, and then fielded questions from the three of us. Having them there was great because they asked questions I hadn’t thought to ask, their perspectives and thought processes are different, and their presence added a level of difficulty- but not an insurmountable one- to the project. Students often find it hard to present their work to one adult, so presenting to more than one is a big deal. I thought they did a really awesome job, though, and I’m happy with their written memos, too. They really showed their understanding of the issues they chose to write about as well as their ability to express liberal and conservative viewpoints accurately. I also think this set them up well for the rest of the course, which is great. Global Studies was also great. Students finished revising the current events write-ups they had been drafting. They added conclusions, put in transition words and stronger verbs where applicable, and proofread their work. I had to help a few students who’d skipped steps or just wanted to turn their work in without making any changes, but then everyone got on the right track. I tend to change the way I teach students how to do these write-ups from year to year, but this might have been some of my best teaching, so I’ll definitely be keeping this lesson as is for next time. So it was a good day, and it ended at the football stadium for the first home game of the season. I checked tickets, as I always do, then went and hung out with some of my colleagues in the bleachers. It wasn’t a very exciting game, at first, but it picked up and our team came away with the win!

…they can engage with a doc set like this, they can adapt that to the DBQ rubric in a way that will still get them what they need on the exam.

Not directly on point to your APGOV issue. But I like looking for ways to make the AP class more relevant despite the constraints.

The way College Board has laid out #APGov with 13 required documents and 14 SCOTUS cases feels like they transformed a course studying our government into studying a set of ancient classical texts from a past bygone golden age that have to be interpreted correctly like the Confucian texts and exams
Although if you want to be an optimist, I guess we replaced them with a strange close reading of the Gettysburg Address, a gratuitously butchered version of The Wealth of Nations skimmed for bullet points, and mudwrestling with the famously inscrutable Federalist #39? So maybe we gained something?

Friends, I’m teaching AP Gov for the first time. Has anyone taught the course before? I could use some advice. Please share and tag and if you can help I’d appreciate it. If you have some resources to share, please do as well. #sschat #hsgov #apgov #edusky

As a government #teacher, this guy’s panicked aggression is a useful introduction to the lesson that land does NOT make electoral wins

The overwhelming amount of red area doesn’t outweigh the deeply concentrated blue areas

Land doesn’t vote
People vote

Highest pass rate in APGov history. Over 50% scoring 4s and 5s. This is going to do nothing to halt the accusations of grade inflation unless Trevor also releases the cut scores and compare them to previous years. Enough of the black box and moving target.

Also, release the west coast FRQs please?

The exam is going to need to be completely reevaluated going forward, but oh god what a fight that will be.

Giving APUSH “core documents” a’la APGov would be a political minefield that I don’t believe the CB wants to fight.
