A new residential development in Canberra's Turner suburb is making waves by integrating a massive public art piece into its design. The project, led by developer UrbanWorks, features a 12-metre-tall sculpture made of recycled steel and glass, positioned at the entrance to the complex. The artwork, titled 'Horizon Lines,' was created by local artist Lila Chen and is designed to reflect the region's natural landscapes and urban growth. The development includes 150 apartments, community spaces, and sustainable energy systems. 'We wanted to create a space where residents can connect with art and nature,' said Chen. The project has sparked debate among locals, with some praising its innovative approach and others concerned about the environmental impact of large-scale sculptures. Council officials have approved the artwork as part of the development's cultural contribution, emphasizing its role in enhancing the area's aesthetic appeal. The sculpture's unveiling is scheduled for late 2024, with plans for public art workshops to engage the community in its creation. This initiative highlights a growing trend in urban planning to merge artistic expression with functional development, offering a unique experience for residents and visitors alike.
