Sherilyn Fenn’s portrayal of Audrey Horne in the original Twin Peaks (1990–1991) remains one of the most memorable performances in television history. Audrey, the neglected daughter of local tycoon Ben Horne, evolves from a rebellious, spoiled teenager into a character concerned with the town’s moral decay. Her unrequited crush on Special Agent Dale Cooper and daring adventures, such as going undercover at One-Eyed Jacks, illustrate both her bravery and naivety. Fenn’s performance combined classic film noir ‘femme fatale’ traits with vulnerability and charm, bringing depth to Audrey beyond a mere troublemaker. Visual elements, including her saddle shoes, pleated skirts, and cashmere sweaters, established a distinctive “retro-modern” look that influenced 1990s fashion. Iconic moments like tying a cherry stem with her tongue and dancing spontaneously to Angelo Badalamenti’s 'Audrey’s Dance' in the Double R Diner cemented her cultural impact. Fenn infused Audrey with a soulful melancholy, transforming her into a tragic figure searching for morality amidst a town filled with secrets. Her work earned her nominations for both the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards, solidifying her legacy in television history.
