Wales got hit with a case of Real Life Folklore over the Christmas period. I went walking in the forests in the hills and thought I had ended up in the Mabinogion.

Glad to see we finally own China. We need it REALLY badly to defend Abersychan… The great Abersychan-Abergavenny war…. So many young boys lost….really sad…and no-one talks about it anymore…..

'Shwmae - hello' Ok so lets go with this new platform and see how it goes. This is the Cwmsychan Brook from which my little village of Abersychan gets its name taken on a beautiful morning this week and all the more beautiful just now with leaves the colour of Welsh gold.

There is a richness about this landscape when you can feast on fine views and enjoy the fresh, earthy aromas of autumn ✍️Tom Maloney
Y Filltir Sgwâr/The Square Mile: Old Ruins and Hidden Stories
In a year long series Tom Maloney, from Abersychan, shows how you can love a place so well it becomes a part of you. Abersychan has had its fair share of heavy industrial use in the past for sure,…

Shame because I don't know much about this guy but he never seemed to stop talking about Torfaen, Cwbran, and Abersychan

'Hanes Cudd - Hidden History' Late afternoon at the Lasgarn Woodland, Abersychan yesterday. This old embankment for the horse drawn tramroad built to haul limestone from the quarries to the local ironworks is not so hidden now that the leaves have had their autumn fall.

Discovering a favourite place and then getting to know it well is one of life’s pleasures. Places such as Mynydd Farteg Fawr, full of beauty like the work of an Old Master.✍️

'Y Coetir yn y Gwanwyn - The Woodland in Spring' I think Wild Garlic in bloom is my favourite time in the woodland and the Lasgarn Wood, Abersychan is just lovely at the moment, though I have a feeling that in another week it will be glorious.

There's been a huge fire for days up in Torfaen up in the Brecon beacons, over by Blaenavon and Abersychan, I think. Started on Sunday. Obviously the fire services are aware and actively working on it. It's covering 200 hectares of land!

'Prynhawn ym mis Ionawr - An Afternoon in January' View at Cwm Ffrwd, Talywain / Varteg, Abersychan looking towards Mynydd Farteg Fawr this afternoon. A Constable sky and an extraordinary landscape with layers of history.

'Ffenestri Coetir - Woodland Windows' So many 'windows' through which to view Mynydd Farteg in the distance and so many layers of history in this view of old quarry workings at The Lasgarn Woodland, Abersychan. Nature has done so much here to heal this landscape.

Tony Benn, Aneurin Bevan, Paul Murphy (he bought the whole pub a round once 😂 class bloke that never forgot his roots in Abersychan and helped in the NI peace agreement) There are others, but hard to find I'm sure

'Grym Natur - The Power of Nature' Ty Cwmsychan Farm, Abersychan photographed yesterday and last November. One of so many trees damaged locally by high winds over the winter period.

'Tywydd gwyntog a heulog a gwyrdd ym mhobman - Windy and sunny weather and green everywhere' My favourite photo of the week. View at Cwmbyrgwm, The British, Abersychan looking towards the Pant Glas Slip. The landscape is looking so green now.

I will never forget the Christmas fog of 2024, it was absolutely amazing to experience

This was at the top of the cloud cover so the light shining through washed out the photo so much that the raw image almost looked monochrome

'Llawenydd y coetir yn y Gwanwyn - The joy of the woodland in Spring' Early evening at the Lasgarn Woodland, Abersychan. The wild garlic is in full bloom and just beautiful. There is something just so magical about this time of the year.

I took the infrared camera out into the fog and got some of my favourite #aerochrome shots I've taken so far

The combination of the otherworldly colours, the ominous fog and the beautiful Welsh forest was a match made in heaven

Full time union official by the time he was growing up, but, yes. Bevan (a fellow Monmouth Valleys man, do note: also had the speech impediment!) liked to rebut charges that Jenkins was lazy by pointing out that anyone from Abersychan with *that* accent was by definition not lazy.

Nye Bevan on Roy Jenkins being accused of laziness. "Lazy? Lazy? How can a boy from Abersychan who acquired an accent like that be lazy?

'Diwedd y dydd - End of the day' A symphony of blue and grey at the end of the day at Cwmbyrgwm, The British near Abersychan. Calm and beautiful at this old industrial pond, but still very cold.
