Abiy is an actual monster. He's also apparently a colossal moron.

A quick reminder, the President of Ethiopia, Ahmed Abiy, won the Nobel prize in 2019 largely on the strength of negotiating peace with Eritrea. Since then he has brought them in as a partner to beat his Tigrayan rebels and now looks like he might be fighting them again.

Reposting this b/c it's awesome (although Abiy Ahmed being involved definitely muddies the divide between fascism and good things)

Relatedly, I've learned a lot about the situation in Ethiopia from a friend who works on that. Their strongman ruler, PM Ahmed Abiy, is a monster who attacks his own people with drones and jails journalists and opposition leaders

He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019

Abiy Ahmed!

Abiy Ahmed is a villain compared to Paul Kagame's supervillain.
You may remember Abiy Ahmed as the dude who managed to get a Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating a peace that turned out to almost certainly include a secret alliance with his erstwhile Eritrean enemies to go commit genocide against the Tigrays together.

In 2018, Abiy Ahmed made global headlines, when he restored ties with Eritrea, putting an end to 2 decades of hostility following the border war of 1998-2000, reopening the closed Eritrean embassy, and eventually sealing the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize. We are back to the pre-2018 hostility if not worse.
