THE ARCH, THE IDOL, AND THE WARNING Trump’s Arch should be a warning to Christians about pride, political idolatry, human glory, and the worship of earthly power. I believe it represents an idol and points prophetically toward the abomination of desolation. Christians should examine these things carefully through Scripture rather than placing their trust in political rulers or monuments built to glorify human power. Daniel gives a sobering warning about a ruler who exalts power: Daniel 11:38 (KJV): “But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.” Other translations render “God of forces” as the “god of fortresses.” The picture is one of power, strength, wealth, and military might being exalted.
