Again it's genuinely striking how often they treat mockery as an unforgivable offense when a central pillar of their appeal was "free speech absolutism" wielded against marginalized communities.

it was always free speech absolutism for the racists, misogynists, transphobes, and even literal neo-Nazis

"we must protect UNPOPULAR speech most of all!" etc., etc.

but nothing about the speech of pro-Palestinian critics, labor speech curtailed by private property, SLAPPs by rich against poor
Thing is the free speech absolutist argument always hinged on limiting critical speech. Even in their own telling the inciting action was protest, a form of speech, they found distasteful against people like Milo Y and Ward Connerly.

Absolution, not absolutism. Those are very different words, and mean very different things.

> "anti censorship" absolutism
> looks inside
> anti social consequences and fair criticism

Every fucking time.

I find their insistence on conformity and language policing highly authoritarian. Also the insistence on absolutism for breaches of their conformity protocols.

Absolutism?

Protective absolutism

Istrault's fatal flaw is his almost primal devotion to the people he loves. He doesn't ask whether they're willing to share the risk. He takes that choice away from them.
Okay, #wolqotd #wolquestion , here we go:
What's your WoL's actual fatal flaw?

if you love these movies, just admit you hate absolutism

Right now, just anything goes. Thats the free speech absolutism that is definitely going great. Otherwise we’d be living in a mad house!

when his anger is directed at a worthy target it's at least amusing. but i have no remaining patience for people who pretend "free speech absolutism" is a thing when much of that speech is The Transgender Question

this is what "free speech absolutism" gets you
November 3, 2026 at 10:39 PM
You do everyone a service of reminding them what realpolitik looks like, and its not betrayal or naive absolutism. The world belongs to those who pursue what actually works...

I've also written somewhere a post about how (liberal) Westerners dunking on Byzantium in 18th century were shadow boxing their own monarchies and using Byzantium as example of absolutism and theocracy without risking attacking their own politicians, but can't find it right now.

Absolutism crap.
'Haley Stevens proves that the left is always correct!'

'No, Dems coming together to defend AES proves they've always..'

Of course, each has had good moments and bad. But hills must be died upon and whatnot 🙃

If Hinson wins she won't have to break with her party to harm trans people and women and brown people and pretty much everyone in the bottom 99.9% income bracket. It's the fucking MAGA brand.

I get the rage but this sort of absolutism is how we ended up with a decade of Trump in the first place
November 3, 2026 at 6:11 PM
Absolutism is dangerous. So absurd when I support trans rights to the hilt. Bye now.

Story was withdrawn after 48 hours. Bad, but stop whatabouting. Repeat: absolutism is dangerous. The point was made, but didn't stop there.

Halloween is one of those survivals of pre-Christian festivals, lightly Christianized (All Hallows' Eve, the Vigil of All Saints' Day). I think it important to retain, in this era of ignorant absolutism.
October 31, 2026 at 8:32 PM
So glad that Britain continues to lead the way in managing speech rights responsibly. None of that silly US-style absolutism where people can protest in support of heinous causes like “genocide is bad”

Each cut is a barrier to a potential future benefit to society. New medicines. More effective systems. Better technology. A more stable world.

These zealots want to destroy their children’s future based on a myopic & narcissistic world view of absolutism & the self justification of power.

Suddenly the difference between "ethnicity" and "religion" gets VERY important to be extremely explicit about.

Absolutism is toxic in any form, but I can honestly say, I can't see anything redeemable about the Zionist movement. It's been nothing but misery and death for others since it began
