I love the acroteria on the pediment above this window. It's on a terrace of town houses on Hyndland Road in the West End of Glasgow built in the 1880s and thought to have been designed by H. and D. Barclay.

This room was cut from the town

Death atop the POV used to be an acroterion

We dropped the Torch mechanic cause it was incompatable with the game's structure

We entertained the idea of a Verb Wheel, but it was inefficient

How about a plant? The Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens). We almost lost the most amazing individuals of this species. Only ~5% of the wild redwood forests remain. We could have ended up with nothing but replanted trees managed for timber if not for a lot of advocacy for over a century.

This painted terracotta winged horse is an acroterion from an #Etruscan temple at ancient Caere. It once sat on the edge of the eaves above the farthest corner of the temple’s pediment, and once had galloping front legs and an upright red mane, along with a metal bit. 500-475 BCE. 🏺 1/

More cabin and more range than a light jet, typically seven to nine passengers and up to around 3,800 miles. The transcontinental workhorse. Aircraft photo: Acroterion, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons.

Having studied classical architecture, I can tell you that if it were a statue it would be an acroterion.

The Temple of Venus was destroyed during the earthquake of 62 CE. Tacitus and Suetonius note that the stop in the "Campanian backwater" of Pompeii was likely a gesture of favor to Poppaea Sabina. Her wealthy family was highly prominent in Pompeii and held deep roots in the local aristocracy. 🏺 2/

This horse protome from a Greek gilded silver rhyton of the same era (found in a Thracian burial mound) gives a very good idea of how the acroterion may have been posed when intact. Note the upright mane and galloping hooves. 🏺 3/

Etruscan temples were colorful affairs, decorated with masses of painted terracotta acroteria, pediment sculptures, and other exterior elements. The illustration below shows how the Tempio Grande (Great Temple) may have once looked. 🏺 2/

Some post-1492 palace in the Old Jewish Quarter not giving any fucks about the Inquisition: pediment with the Ark of the Covenant – on the entablature –, king Solomon seated in between Solomonic columns – on the tympanum –, and the menorah of the Temple of Jerusalem – on top as an acroterion.
