Adapalene is an OTC version, much weaker than a prescription strength retinol

I know it's not very late, but I am almost-brushed-my-teeth-with-adapalene tired.

left to right is the order in which i do things. the sunscreen/adapalene obviously alternate between AM/PM but i haven't been doing the adapalene past number of days since i've got an appointment with a derm to get a second opinion about laser and you should never use retinol if you're getting laser

shoutout to @simonee.bsky.social for getting me to research and start a retinoid (adapalene 0.1% gel) because my skin hasn't even fully retinized yet but holy Shit it is so fucking smooth. my face is gulping up moisturizer like a mfer and i am reaping the rewards of glowing skin. this stuff rules

Yeah it took me ages to be able to use adapalene regularly without my whole face peeling off. I can’t imagine how long getting used to tret will take.

100% now is the time to get into retinoids. I highly endorse adapalene

Adapalene + Citric Acid: Retinoids and exfoliants both speed up cell turnover, so together they tend to stack irritation and can wear down your barrier. Not on the same night. https://glowsimplified.com/s/b/adapalene-and-citric-acid

I’ve scaled way back on Amazon this year for obvious reasons, but my preferred brand of adapalene gel was on sale and I’m only human

having sensitive acne-prone skin in your 30s makes your bathroom look like you’re an unhinged sephora hoarder. this is just the basics lol

BTW just a reminder in case it's new to someone:

Skincare with retinols / retinoids / differin /adapalene / tretinoin make your skin ridiculously more sensitive to light. Protection with a high SPF is very important to fend off lasting damage.
Meds and heat is such an important topic!
The antidepressant I used to take made me suffer in summer way more than I already did, and it also can cause skin to burn more easily.
If you add in thyroid issues (temp out of wack) or ADHD meds (no thirst = dehydration), summer is a hell to fight thru.

Adapalene + Vitamin C (LAA): Pure vitamin C and retinoids prefer different pH levels, so layered together they can be a little less effective and more irritating. Use them at different times. https://glowsimplified.com/s/b/adapalene-and-vitamin-c-laa

Soolantra (aka ivermectin) mostly! And squalane oil and adapalene when I remember it. And I use all cerave or cetaphil because my skin is easily upset :(

If you use topicals like differin (adapalene) or retin-a (tretinoin) using pore strips or waxing can literally rip your skin off

okay a routine post for the skincare nerds.

disclaimer: please do not be intimidated by this if you are not a skincare nerd. you can seriously just do a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen to get be like 70% of the way there. also this is just what *i* am currently doing for *me*, not reccs!!!
