it’s perfectly emblematic of how regressive and conservative the practice and mindset of adoption is that we are asked to demonstrate why the equality we demand is *actually* important.

I do not like having to beg people to see that plenary adoption is a human rights violation.

It's not a choice.

Sealing original birth certificates (OBCs) after adoption is an outdated and discriminatory practice rooted in stigma, not necessity.
In the era of DNA testing and social media, secrecy no longer exists. What remains is a policy that simply denies adoptees equal access to their own identity.

Utah adopted people! HB 129 - a clean OBC bill is in committee! Contact your representative and the House Judicial Committee to get it passed on without any modifications. A similar bill in 2020 got modified and went in to effect in 2021 with some major restrictions. le.utah.gov/~2025/bills/...
