Still-functional Aermotor windmill pumping well water. Made in Chicago. Company founder LaVerne Noyes donated a building to University of Chicago in honor of his late wife Ida.

At their peak, Texas was the largest user of water-pumping windmills in the United States. While many are decommissioned, they are still used on rural ranches today. Aermotor windmills, iconic to Texas landscapes, have been manufactured in San Angelo since 1986.

Someone needs to get the Aermotor Company to send a nasty letter on behalf of LaVerne and Ida Noyes.

What might well be an Aermotor 702A lists away from a small shed, surrounded by signs of an active, if weedy, garden.

Really wanted to buy this (quite large) windmill fin I saw at an antique store yesterday, and hang it on a run of fence. But not at $365.

In the University of Chicago Record they had a bio of Noyes and concluded: “It is by no means impossible that in the future, when the last oil well has failed and the coal fields are exhausted, the electric aermotor will supply for all the world an abundance of heat, light, and power.” end/n

I want to extract something from my post--La Verne Noyes in 1895 converted his water pumping windmill into one that generated electricity, which was a huge boon to rural America. AND they saw the future in 1918 when the University of Chicago paid a tribute to him... 1/n

I actually just ran into another Aermotor at work, part of an old ranching facility! Also had a shipping container for an old missile that was repurposed into some kind of feeder or water tank (Sadly cant post pics)

"Keeper of the Breeze". It was an idyllic afternoon. I was driving through the rolling hills of the Palouse and spied this classic Aeromotor windmill patiently waiting for the next wisp of wind.

FYI: The Aermotor windmill company has been making windmills since 1888 and still makes them in the US.

I’m roughly basing the mechanism on an aermotor. Still a work in progress.
