Hour-and-a-half boat ride followed by thirty minute hike to a natural hot spring. We went with an Ahousat First Nation tour company that had exclusivity to the early morning time-slots and we saw sea otters, sea-lions, eagles, a black bear, and a humpback mother and calf on the boat ride there

For #PhycologyFriday, another week of surveying herring spawn in Tlai-o-qui-aht & Ahousat territory, west Vancouver Island, with lots of eggs on seaweeds!

You suggesting British Columbia go back on it's decades-old tradition of creating, or keeping, "woke" Indigenous place names? Such as:

Ahousat
Ahousat
Coquitlam
Gitwangak
Kamloops
Kitsilano
Musqueam
Nanaimo
Osoyoos
Qualicum
Squamish
Staloawsom Bridge
Tsawwassen

What are you suggesting instead?

Sunday Silliness!! The Persuaders make a pit stop on the way to rock Ahousat and strike some late 80s metal poses! Todd Sacerty, your truly with a t-shirt on my head, and Steve Lees. Pierre Komen must have taken the pic.

On one "out" day, the boat stopped in Ahousaht (not usual) at the Ahousaht General Store, locally known as "Huey's" for its late beloved owner, Hugh Clarke. The store has a beautiful carved wooden sign:

I looked up the locations of all the residential schools on Vancouver Island yesterday. No wonder they could be silenced so long — they were in places like Ahousat and Tofino, while Victoria had none nearby. Nanaimo’s was on an island, and some called it “Canada’s Alcatraz.”

I'll never forget the Ahousat saving all those people when that whale watching boat capsized. ❤️

Can't believe that was a decade ago...
