A better terminal alone won't fix EWR. If all these pieces work together, Newark could become the airport New Yorkers prefer.

lirr stopping its short trains ( usually diesels) at the front of the platform at jamaica is dumb. a lot are transferring to the airtrain or subway at the rear of the platforms. esp the port jeff diesels with lots of stony brook students going home to queens

The JFK Express began to experience low ridership which ultimately influenced the decision to end service on the line in 1990. The issue of not being able to reach the airport’s terminals with a train was finally tackled in 2003 when the AirTrain debuted.

@crankyflier.com Good point about not building the west terminal all at once. Still, if you want (a) as many gAAtes as American has in terminal 4, (b) international arrivals, and (c) an Airtrain station, this is, what, a third or a half of the eventual size?

I realize that NYC still can't grasp the notion of having its subway go to its international airport, but AirTrain + subway/LIRR does get you out of traffic.

Did this just the other day. Hudson line to LIRR to AirTrain. Worked great and saved a bunch of time had I needed to take the subway.
