10 Aug 1809 // Off south-eastern Norway 18-gun brig sloop HMS Alaart was pursuing two merchantmen, which took refuge in Frederiksvern. Soon after, a flotilla of 15 Danish gunboats came out of the harbour to attack the Alaart, which used sweeps to get away as the wind had suddenly dropped. [1/2]

After a three-hour chase the gunboats caught up and opened fire. The Alaart fired back and the battle lasted two hours, with the gunboats using roundshot and grape. Finally the Alaart surrendered with rigging shot to pieces, one man killed and several wounded. [2/2] #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory
