My oldest just celebrated their 1 year sobriety date.
They were within months of death when they went into rehab.
Found out yesterday my youngest is drinking again.
This child's drinking is worse.
Their dad was in AA for 10 years.
He died sober.
29+ years of Alanon isn't helping.
I'm scared.

I see something like this and I think "Joe Biden is working one hella AlAnon program. Even if Joe doesn't go to meetings or even know what AlAnon is. He's loved his son deeply and openly, yet had boundaries and didn't get swirled into the chaos."

Yep. Use the active addict/alanon model as a framework. These people need to FEEL the consequences of their actions before they hit their bottom. The question is, how do we protect ourselves as this happens?

As if a heavy drinker would honestly answer any of these questions. If you believe they do, you may need to attend an ALANON meeting.

Yes, I know, but most alanon groups aren't going to reinforce holding her husband accountable. Their focus is generally on how to "successfully" live with an alcoholic.

My therapist is no longer in network.

Thought I'd jump on a bit, see how everybody's holding up.
Not doing well, myself.
