#Algorithmic
And also the one social media space that most accurately reflected the national vibes was this non-algorithmic platform without advertising.
three things that should be extremely clear after last night

- people hate the tech overlords and you need to go after them

- theres no reason to be scared of their money

- there is no downside in bringing them to heel

Could it be that the platforms with algorithmic monopolies have skewed perceptions and the open social site with less manipulated social engagement are more accurate to real life???

The degree to which Twitter has turned into an algorithmic echo chamber is ASTOUNDING
you had groypers/the right posting shit like this a DAY before the midterms. they're so chronically online and warped by it they don't even realize that they've severed themselves completely from real politics. they're just doing extremism as fandom, at this point.

One of the things I *love* about Bluesky is the utterly chaotic nature of my non algorithmic TL. I can read about: Medieval eel taxes, the latest Romancelandia knives out drama, an unhinged shitpost, a cool archaeology discovery, and a Nigella recipe. It's a cabinet of curiosity for the brain.

Algorithmic redistricting and doubling the number of house seats should be in the conversation in January.
THIS. Gerrymandering blocked Dems from gaining unified control over state government in GA, NC, TX, and maybe OH.

Nearly 1 in 5 Americans live in those states.

Many House races remain uncalled, but my very prelimiary estimate is gerrymandering cost Dems 2 dozen seats—only NC’s map fully fell apart
I said this on @nativelandpod.bsky.social but I'll repeat it here: A dangerous narrative is going to be "the GOP gerrymandering didn't work."

NO. It worked GREAT. We just OVERCAME it. But we'd have even MORE seats, and different candidates could have won those seats, without the gerryamndering.

FINALLY!! We get to hear what billionaires think….

Other than through their constant editorializing through the news media organizations they own and the algorithmic pushing of accounts that tow the lines they prefer on the social media aps they also own…

Theyre afraid of open source, non-algorithmic propaganda.

Weird.

This place is annoying and its own kind of information silo but its obvious that is the case so accounting for it is straightforward. Plus you opt in to algorithmic mediation. Huge difference!

My biggest problem in this modern web we’re living on is I basically never want to watch a video, but all the economic and algorithmic incentives push basically 100% of all online stuff to be video-only

The algorithmic weight that x has had for a long time has made people make a lot of very shitty calls and while this site is very liberal, so too is most of the country at this point when you remove that component. English language X is a chat room for people with ycombinator brain and clip farmers.
This election cycle has made one thing pretty clear: X is politically irrelevant.

I'm definitely better than GAS (generative algorithmic slop), that much I'm confident in.

American GDPR.

Personally I would ban algorithmic advertising and hidden timeline algorithms entirely.

Algorithmic Realism
The field of data science faces a moral crisis. Despite the desires of data scientists to develop algorithms for good, algorithms regularly produce injustice...

What has changed since then in the post-2016 era of algorithmic buckets and the grinding machine of content is that there really is just very little good content for some 19-year-old trying to figure himself out and maybe impress girls along the way, but there's a LOT of bad content.
