A new study led by A Baulard, N Willand and B Deprez, in collab with M Pieren and M Remuinan, report the mode of action of AlpE a novel combination therapy pairing alpibectir with ethionamide to enhance tuberculosis treatment.

Medicines need a reliable teammate to work effectively against resistant bacteria.

#Alpibectir is a novel TB treatment that boosts the effectiveness of the decades-old drug ethionamide.

5/ Importantly, in parallel studies, alpibectir was found to be safe and efficacious in Phase 1 and Phase 2a clinical trials.

3/ The researchers demonstrate that alpibectir boosts ethionamide activity by stimulating an alternative bacterial activation pathway (VirS/MymA), thereby restoring drug sensitivity — even in strains resistant to ethionamide and isoniazid.

A new #tuberculosis (TB) treatment combining #alpibectir and #ethionamide has shown promising results in patients.
