I think what i love about your Nancy is not only that you have an almost opposite approach to lines than Bushmiller (he's almost line-clair, you have a very dynamic line) it is also so atypical of what most syndicate stips *do* re:line, feels more influenced by altcomix/animation than 50s pulp/ads

Yeah, I don’t think it’s like The Best Comic of All Time, but I think the overt Ditko riff is just a better vessel for his entire Vibe than just, like, delivered on its own. But for “altcomix guys riffing on Ditko Spider-Man” I’ll take THE DEATH-RAY any day of the week

One wonders if Tom King—setting aside the obvious moral flaws—would’ve fared better at altcomix, in the same way that Ed Brubaker’s best work is his pre-mainstream semiautobio work. Could we have gotten Tom King in KRAMERS ERGOT??

Picked up a new zine compilation of sketchbook art from Thee Goatfucker Emeritus. Jack's work consistently makes me go "damn, that rips" immediately followed by "I need to draw more," very cool to have this one for the coffee table.

part of it is that like a lot of people i tend to have a jaundiced eye toward the 60s/70s underground these days, and also my favorite altcomix stuff doesn't really get going until the 90s. the uneasy middle ground of the 80s is extremely fertile but also extremely disorderly and often uncollected
