hey y'all!
Have you turned in your friendly alt-text reminder in Blue Sky yet?

You too can alt-text!
It's takes less then the time it takes to write a post!

& you reach more people when you do!

Visited 3 different eras today...
Long Meg & her Sisters, a large stone circle near Penrith, 3rd widest in England and dating from the Neolithic.
A buried Roman road on the Shap fells
A monument to travellers, locals, builders & maintainers of the A6 between Kendal and Penrith.
#AltTextChallenge
A 12 foot tall red sandstone monolith with what looks like a worked smooth side facing to the right, set in a green grassy field with trees in the background. The stone is Long Meg, a Neolithic monument. A series of seven large greyish stones curve round to the left from immediately in front of the photographer in a green grass field with a line of trees behind. The first, second and fifth stone are upright with the others lying on the ground and all are mottled with grey and green lichen in places. They are some of the 'Daughters' of Long Meg, a Neolithic stone circle in the North of England. A vibrant green grassy area disappears off into the distance, curving slowly down a hill. The grass looks fairly level and broad. To the left is a low line of grey stones while an electricity pylon stands to the left in the near distance. In the far distance, there is a view of receding hills forming a misty valley between the. This is the route of a main road made by Roman soldiers almost 2000 years ago over high mountains on the Eastern side of the English Lake District. A worked oblong stone monument with two slate plaques set into its face with a green and brown moorland backdrop under grey skies. On the right side is a green plant and small tributes are on the ground along its front, including a small plastic memorial, vases with plastic flowers and a small red clothed figure sticking out of a small wicker basket partly obscured by the plant. The top plaque records in capital letters that the memorial is for the drivers and crews of commercial vehicles plying their trade along this remote and weather-blasted key road, as well as those who built and kept up the road and local residents who often gave shelter to lost and stranded travellers along the A6. The second plaque records who provided the monument, amongst them the Friends of the British Commercial Vehicle Museum, the Shap Memorial Trust Fund and local councils.

Bluesky has a wonderful option to turn on an alternative text reminder when posting. It must be turned on separately for the web and for mobile. Join the #AltTextChallenge and make your posts more accessible to all!

We love including a good image or GIF with a post, but not at the expense of accessibility, which is why we use alt text with images. If you find yourself struggling to remember to add alt text to both images AND GIFs, go Settings > Accessibility Settings > Require alt text. #EduSky #IDEAil
Accessibility Settings Alt text: Toggle on Require alt text before posting Other options listed but not toggled on: Display larger alt text badges Media: Disable autoplay for videos and GIFs

I love this graphic- I wanted others to access too.
I downloaded it to the free actuallyusefulai.com Alt-text generator and it came up w/ the following (see on photo) in 10 seconds.

#AltTextChallenge doesn't have to be difficult. I am not always the best at coming up with it, so I use my helper!
The image is an infographic titled “DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS HOW TO STAY CALM WHEN IT COUNTS.” It outlines a model for staying calm during difficult conversations called “The CALM Model.” This model includes several steps and techniques such as focusing on breathing, using active listening, speaking with clarity and confidence, and reflecting back the speaker’s words. The infographic also provides tips for controlling emotions and managing body language. It emphasizes the importance of staying calm during difficult conversations to maintain effective communication.

Do you forget to use alt-text when you post images? I'm forgetful, too. Fortunately, you can turn on reminders!

Settings -> Accesibility -> Require alt text.

Done! Easy accessibility.

People who are new to writing alt text sometimes feel they must describe every detail, and then get overwhelmed by this pressure. Imagine a large crowd at a football game: you are not expected to describe every single person in a crowd in detail. This would be nearly impossible.
