He got an outfit change for joining the Scions!

Altan leaning against the wall, with an open book in one hand while he looks towards the bookshelf he's standing next to. He's in a long, brown leather coat with a ruffled white collar, sleek black pants, and brown leather boots. His Dotharl bow is still prominently on his back.

Altan, with short black hair, Au Ra starting gear, and a Ghost Baroque bow dyed ink blue, turned away from the camera as he walks up the hill into Gridania. Altan, with short black hair and face scales stopping at his cheekbone, glares at the camera. He's in Au Ra starting gear, with the Wayfarer's Necklace.

"No, Thancred, I *don't* know why it has to be me doing this."

Sometimes I wish this game would let us go "wtf no????" Thankfully, Altan can be sneaky too.

Altan in a low crouch with his back to the camera as he hides to watch an Amalj'aa archer walk by. He's lit from the side by warm torch light and from above by cool moonlight. Altan kneeling by some boxes and an empty cage in the Amalj'aa camp, inspecting a coil of rope. He's barely lit in the front by warm torch light. Altan reaching out to the queer leaflet he found in an Amalj'aa camp. He's lit in warm torch light and cool moonlight.

A most reluctant job.

AKA. That time I almost struck an entire dungeon from Altan's canon and had to talk myself into why he would agree to this shit.

I made these instead of NG+ing more. There's about 4 more pages where that came from.

My hand hurts 😅 #ffxiv #AltanMSQ #WoLTan
Altan's journal with color coded notes detailing his Warrior of Light's thoughts and feelings throughout MSQ. The notes are long and include: Dungeon Crawler (continued). Altan does not want to take the Copperbell job. Dotharl's reincarnation beliefs mean he believes that you are responsible for your ancestors' sins. Implying that he'd be subduing the giants is a point in favor of him taking the job. Having him clean up their mess is a point against him taking the job. A question asking "if you don't kill them, what happens?" and because he didn't get an answer, it's a point against him taking the job. There's a snippet from Altan's thoughts that reads "So your ancestors enslaved them, but you're not atoning for that." Why does Altan agree to Copperbell? Because he believes the giants won't stop with just Ul'dahn adults, meaning children and refugees will also die. The adventurers who would take the job would use lethal force instead of trying to talk first. And other adventurers have already died in there. While in Copperbell, Altan tries to talk first with every giant, and every kill is ultimately in self-defense. Altan hates being called "conqueror of Copperbell." Scion. No hesitation to help the refugee woman. Altan jumps in the moment Ulgust laughs because he's pissed. An arrow pointing off that sentence declaring a headcanon that the refugee is Ala Mhigan. Altan steps up to defend someone who also once called Ala Mhigo home. A maroon note declares that Altan is loyal when loyalty is earned. Altan is initially skeptical of the Scions' offer, but agrees to at least talk to their leader because the Echo scares him. He's worried about it triggering when he's in battle. Altan's insulted that Edda's fiancé thought highly of him. Altan follows roads in unfamiliar places, and he cuts through underbrush when he's familiar. More of Altan's journal notes of his character's thoughts throughout MSQ, including the end of the Scion section. They read as follows: Scion (continued). Altan doesn't immediately agree to join the Scions because he wants more information on them. He does not have retainers because he likes doing stuff himself. Physically talking is also not natural for him. Altan recognizes the good will (such as retainers and getting the password), however these don't hold much weight with him. He spends a few weeks doing odd jobs and getting to know them. he also tests the extent of their goodwill a lot, including using Scion influence and resources to start learning sign language. Altan is wary, but not untrusting. "We Scions have but one objective: to safeguard the future of Eorzea." That is the line that gets Altan to join. His outfit changes when he joins the Scions. He's no long representing Gridania, and picks something more suited to the variety and intensity of work with the Scions. It's lightly armored, with closed-toed boots, and more pockets. He still has his Dotharl bow and necklace. At the bottom is the red header for the next section titled "Ifrit's Bane", and the page below it is blank.

Some dialogue from FF14 reading "I'm afraid our wares are very expensive." 'Very Expensive' is underlined in red, and underneath is Altan's wallet, showing over 167 million gil.

Since NG+ing *all* of MSQ, and specifically not speedrunning it, is a pretty long project already... I did set some ground rules for myself.

#AltanMSQ
The general rule is "does this tell the story I want to tell about Altan at this point".
