Thinking again about how every potion is a weight gain potion to an alveus, and then that got me wondering what an alveus that's aspected with alchemy might look like. Could be a fun design to explore~

This is part of why alvei tend to gather in groups. An alveus with a broken lodestone can be fed magic by another alveus by touching lodestones together, or by a mage touching their lodestone and feeding them mana directly, sustaining them while the injury heals.

Lava lamp aesthetics maybe? Little blobs of dark and light splitting and merging as they shift around inside the alveus' belly?

This, however, forestalls the healing process entirely as long as the alveus continues to feed on necromancy, making them dependent upon it.

Alternatively, an alveus with a broken lodestone can feed on necromancy. The necromantic energies essentially "reanimate" the broken lodestone like an undead, restoring its function immediately.

Whoops, spread false information there. The Starly didn't come that day, it was the alveus.
It was shortly afterwards though, plus I'd like to share it anyway, so...have it as a bonus trrrrreat!

Without supplemental magic to feed on, an alveus with a broken lodestone will slowly lose weight and starve even if they eat physical food. They simply cannot gain all the nourishment they need without feeding on magic.

This sounds like a very plausible explanation for a larger than average alveus! And definitely fits right at home in the lore, I love this idea a lot!
Also means Aerin would be even tinier compared to him, which just makes that dynamic all the more amusing~

Yeah, it is a bit hard to see the color of his tongue. I felt like he looked like Toaster Strudel from Alveus Sanctuary, but wanted to be sure.
