🆕 Amazon GameLift Servers now boost inter-container communication and flexibility with container fleet improvements. Customize Linux capabilities and use ListContainersNetworkInfo() to find co-located containers, enhancing deployment control. Available worldwide except China.

#AWS #AmazonGamelift
Amazon GameLift Servers adds new container fleet improvements
Amazon GameLift Servers now supports two significant container fleet improvements that enhance flexibility and inter-container communication for game server deployments. These new capabilities address common challenges faced by game developers using containerized architectures, providing greater control over container permissions and enabling seamless discovery of co-located containers on the same instance. You can now customize Linux capabilities for containers in your container group definitions, giving you finer control beyond Docker's default capability set. This is particularly valuable for game servers requiring specialized capabilities such as NET_RAW for custom networking protocols or SYS_PTRACE for attaching debuggers and profiling tools. Additionally, game servers can now call the new ListContainersNetworkInfo() server SDK action to retrieve comprehensive network information, including container name, ID, local IP address, and container group type for all containers running on the same instance. This enables automatic service discovery and simplified communication between game servers and auxiliary services like metrics collectors, logging agents, or caching systems. These improvements are available through the Amazon GameLift Servers console, AWS CLI, AWS SDK, and AWS CloudFormation. The ListContainersNetworkInfo() action is supported in server SDK 5.x for Go, C++, and C#, as well as in plugins for Unreal Engine and Unity. Both features are available in all AWS regions where Amazon GameLift Servers is supported, except China. To learn more, visit the Amazon GameLift Servers documentation.

Amazon GameLift Servers adds ability to view and connect to instances in the console
Today, Amazon GameLift Servers launched new console capabilities that let you view and connect to individual fleet instances. The EC2 and Container Fleet Detail pages have a new Instances tab to see a list of instances associated with a fleet. For each instance, there is an instance details page that displays metadata in a human-readable format (data also available via Amazon GameLift Server APIs). From the list and detail views, you can invoke the connect button, open a modal, and launch AWS CloudShell to start an SSM session directly into that instance. These console improvements give hands-on tools to debug, inspect, and resolve issues faster. Instead of relying on external tooling or guesswork, directly investigate host performance, pull recent game server logs, or diagnose issues such as network configuration and instance health - all from within the Amazon GameLift Servers Console. This reduces turnaround time when troubleshooting and enhances visibility into what’s happening “under the hood” of a game server fleet. SSM in Console is available in Amazon GameLift Servers supported regions, except AWS China. Amazon GameLift Servers adds telemetry metrics to all server SDKs and game engine plugins
Today, Amazon GameLift Servers launched the addition of built-in telemetry metrics across all server SDKs and game engine plugins. Built on OpenTelemetry, an open source framework, Amazon GameLift Servers telemetry metrics enable game developers to generate, collect, and export critical client-side metrics for game-specific insights. With this release, Amazon GameLift Servers can now be configured to collect and publish telemetry metrics for game servers running on managed Amazon EC2 and container fleets. Customers can leverage both pre-defined metrics and custom metrics, publishing them to Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus or Amazon CloudWatch. This data can be visualized through ready-to-use dashboards (via Amazon Managed Grafana or Amazon CloudWatch) to help game developers optimize resource utilization, improve player experience, and identify and resolve potential operational issues. Telemetry metrics are now available in all Amazon GameLift Servers supported regions, except AWS China. For more information on monitoring resources using telemetry metrics on Amazon GameLift Servers, please visit the Amazon GameLift Servers documentation.

🆕 Amazon GameLift Servers now lets you view and connect to fleet instances directly in the console, using EC2 and Container Fleet Detail pages, with AWS CloudShell for SSM sessions, enhancing troubleshooting and visibility.

For more information, visit the Amazon GameLift Servers documentation.

Amazon GameLift Servers launches a new Local Zone in Dallas, Texas
Amazon GameLift Servers now supports a new AWS Local Zone in Dallas, Texas (us-east-1-dfw-2). You can use this Local Zone to deploy GameLift Fleets with EC2 C6gn, C6i, C6in, M6g, M6i, M6in, M8g, and R6i instances. Local Zones place AWS services closer to major player population and IT centers where no AWS region exists. From the Amazon GameLift Servers Console, you can enable the Dallas Local Zone and add it to your fleets, just as you would with any other Region or Local Zone. With this launch, game studios can run latency-sensitive workloads such as real-time multiplayer gaming, responsive AR/VR experiences, and competitive tournaments closer to players in the Dallas metro area. Local Zones help deliver single-digit millisecond latency, giving players a smoother, more responsive experience by reducing network distance between your servers and players. For more information on AWS Local Zones, please see here. To see a complete list of supported regions and local zones for Amazon GameLift Servers, visit the Amazon GameLift Servers documentation. For pricing, please visit the Amazon GameLift Servers Instance Pricing page.
