Lizard of the day: Common Puerto Rican ameiva!
A rather large teiid species! Juveniles have bright blue tails but they will lose the color with age! They have blue underbellies and red snouts, although this might change depending on the population. They inhabit forests.

Next up on the Costa Rican Reptile updates; the Delicate Ameiva - a lizard of the forest floor that personally I'd have said was fairly robust, but what do I know?

Moving to Miami, of course I expected a glamorous life of poolside parties & fast cars. Instead I became an amateur urban naturalist.

Green Iguana: *9th* species of lizard I've seen at home. Brown, Cuban Knight, Green, Bark, & Crested Anoles, Peter’s Rock Agama, Tropical House Gecko, Giant Ameiva.

Those lizards are definitely ameiva. Look at their snoot. They remind me of the ones I see in my backyard.

living in florida is a never-ending cycle of seeing some cool-yet-invasive lizards and thinking "I wish you were where you should be!"

watched this pair of ameiva chase each other around for a good 30+ mins this morning

Today's #AnAnimalADay is the Green Ameiva! This lizard is abundant throughout C. and S. America as well as the Caribbean. Unfortunately, it's also now invasive in Florida, where it not only preys on other lizards' food like insects, it also eats the native lizards like anoles and skinks.

Many animals try and hide from predators, but some lizards take a different approach, directing attacks to their tails. In their Review, Watson & Cox discuss the mechanisms and functions of decoy colouration in lizards & suggest areas of future research
