Just shipped a new release for xword-dl, the command line tool to scrape online crossword solvers into local puz files. Headline is fixed support for AmuseLabs embeds, but we've also added the LA Times Mini as a supported outlet github.com/thisisparker...
Release 2025.8.4 · thisisparker/xword-dl
This release fixes AmuseLabs downloaders, many of which were broken after the same small change on their end. Kudos to @lcpdecastro for the relevant patch! Also: updates the LA Times downloader an...

amuselabs Assist menu now includes "Reveal Letter" ”Reveal Word" and "Reveal Intentions". not too sure about all that

In an initial exploratory experiment, we partnered with AmuseLabs to compare:
🧩 Effortful puzzling (Sudoku) vs. 📺 Passive leisure (YouTube videos)

✅ Sudoku felt more meaningful
❌ It wasn’t rated as less enjoyable

We then replicated this in a preregistered study.

Big shoutout to my co-authors: @gregdepow.bsky.social @minzlicht.bsky.social and Srishti Agarwal from AmuseLabs for all of the amazing work on this project!

Made a very quick Cryptic Mini, which I'm calling #0, as my first play on Crossword Compiler.

Was going to make it my switch to mycrossword, but it turns out I can't upload a 5x5, so still on amuselabs for this one.

Pretty please with the balance of clues.

I still think it's good - I like getting outside of the AmuseLabs box

If it was British, it probably was MyCrossword. In North America, there’s the Crosshare community (mostly non-cryptic).

PuzzleMe (AmuseLabs) is popular for self-publishing, but not with social profiles and a central community. There’s also Crosswordr and a few other platforms.

I wasn’t able to do this with CC. However, PuzzleMe from Amuselabs was able to handle it, with some additional programming support from their IT folks.

Having seen what everybody else seems to use after starting setting, I kinda want to switch but I really like having complete control over the grid on amuselabs, could only find templates on mycrossword

I've worried for a while on the effect on the crossword ecosystem of Amuselabs getting bought, going out of business, etc. I should have seen this coming given that they added an experimental AI cluing feature several months ago. If they're scraping our puzzles for this, going back and changing...

Right, have downloaded the CC demo and had a play. But then still uploaded to amuselabs because I didn't realise about size restrictions on mycrossword. There's one tiny bit of a clue I'm not entirely happy with, but went for making the surface read better. No anagrams! bsky.app/profile/evil...

A big day for me, and my friends at Amuselabs. #TheLATimes #MidiCrossword has gone live. I'll be writing this daily 10x10 #crossword. A much appreciated way to support me in this is to click to the puzzle and solve it. Completed solves are key for long term success :) www.latimes.com/games/midi-c...

🧩 Other than a website link to their store, which again only sells binders, the only feature we haven’t covered is Puzzles. It’s nothing.

They partnered with @AmuseLabs who are then collecting your data, and served up crosswords and quizzes with broken images. It’s a ripoff.
