Well, I had a day off work and went to the cinema.
Was a sobbing heap by the end.
After all, nothing says festive fun like the French Revolution and a guillotining.

#AndreaChénier premiered at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano #OnThisDay in 1896; the only #opera of #UmbertoGiordano that is regularly staged, it has a few notable arias, including "La mamma sorta" — sung here by Sonya Yoncheva:

A night of pure magic at Deutsche Oper Berlin with Andrea Chénier! Sondra Radvanovsky’s Maddalena moved us to tears, while Pavel Yankovsky’s Carlo Gérard held us spellbound. ❤️‍🔥 The orchestra was on fire! Giordano’s music soared in this French Revolution drama. 🇫🇷

#AndreaChénier will be broadcast live from the Met at 1 p.m. today with Piotr Beczała, Sonya Yoncheva (Maddalena di Coigny) & Igor Golovatenko (Carlo Gérard), Daniele Rustioni conducting #UmbertoGiordano's #opera set in the midst of the French Revolution:

Oh, and the unusually tall tenor at the Rosenhöhe is my friend, the unusually tall tenor Matthew Vickers! He’ll also be at Luisenplatz later today for pictures for Andrea Chénier!

No matter how bad things are now, I will struggle and fight till my dying days to achieve the peace that this guy from Giordano’s ‘Andrea Chenier’ is longing for. Don’t you dare get in my way! Juan Pons, baritone
