#Angiosperms
Goodbye dinosaurs, hello angiosperms.

Always RT orchids, the bugs of angiosperms
Caladenia attingens subsp. attingens - Forest Mantis Orchid

A distinctive #orchid with red and green colouring and upturned sepals. Apparently, this orchid has also been known as the Sneezing Spider Orchid... and I can see why 🤧

Because of Valentine's Day we had today a Flower Flocking #paleostream, covering different kinds of fossil angiosperms!
Florissantia, Lovellea, Leguminocarpum and Sagaria!

Today I can share the Cretaceous angiosperms (for the Temperate and Tropical biomes) and Cretaceous Wetland plants I designed for Prehistoric Kingdom.

a fun fact is that most of your spices are either basal angiosperms (early-evolving flowering plants); in the carrot family, Apiaceae; or mint family, Lamiaceae.

Man, if hermaphrodidic slugs are triggering these days, wait until they hear about angiosperms!

Angiosperms are plants that bear flowers and fruits.

They also didn’t show up until the Early Cretaceous.

So a few million years separate Apatosaurus and angiosperms.

Therefore, Littlefoot would have never seen a tree star.

(dont hate me)

I think all flowers are stunning whether inconspicuous or show offs, especially magnolias! I think they are stunning examples of one of the most ancient of flowering angiosperms. Great for #fullspectrum #photography and #Stunday. #landscape #EastCoastKin #chromefilter #bloomscrolling

New OA Article: "Integrated analysis of fossils and molecular divergence time estimates a latest Jurassic origin of angiosperms" rdcu.be/foNXh

... suggest a Late Jurassic origin of flowering plants, indicating a cryptic early history of angiosperms.

Cat is out of the bag! Later this summer I’ll make a big jump across the pond for 4 years to work on polyploid genome evolution and diploidization patterns across angiosperms as part of this awesome grant and team
📢Meet the Team!

Dr. Kevin Bird, starting this summer as a post-doctoral researcher at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He will be looking for signs of asynchronous diploidization across angiosperms.

Our latest, led by @jameswclark.bsky.social of @milnerevolution.bsky.social shows that the notorious mismatch between molecular and palaeontological estimates for the timing of origin of angiosperms is a consequence of equivocal interpretation of their fossil record @bristolpalaeo.bsky.social
Uncertainty in the timing of diversification of flowering plants rests with equivocal interpretation of their fossil record | Royal Society Open Science
The timing of the origin of crown-angiosperms exemplifies the impact of competing approaches to establishing evolutionary timescales. Fossils of unequivocal crown-angiosperms are not known from before...

More and more people are saying it’s all about the angiosperms
February 20, 2026 at 5:13 AM
Allosaurus was around about 155 million years ago, back in the Late Jurassic, and they roamed around for about 10 million years before they went extinct.

The first flowering plants, or angiosperms, didn’t appear until about 130 million years ago, in the Early Cretaceous.

So happy and proud to share our lab’s first #plantscience research article, revealing that angiosperms have the capacity to encode memory of flooding stress.

A heroic effort by @aidamaric.bsky.social in collaboration with @djgibbs.bsky.social and others. A brief 🧵
