A Komodo dragon doesn't investigate the same way a fox does.

A fox doesn't intimidate suspects the way a dog does.

A komodo dragon isn't going to move or fight like a feline.

With her walking away, I leaned towards Trace and gave him a look. "Y'wanna tell me what that was about?" He shook his head and smiled, sipping his water. "None of your business. Besides…" he trailed off, wrapping an arm around David, who was even wobblier than before, "The birthday boy is way more interesting than that! How's the night been, young'un?" David let out an indignant mrow, nudging into him with a giggle. "I'm not thaaaaaat yooouuung, I'm a whooooole twenty-one! Tenny, twa… Twen… Two of the ten things, and another one, that. I'm that." He said, giggling more. Trace chuckled. "You're like, three whole years younger than me, you're practically a baby!" he said while pinching one of David's cheeks. David let out another indignant sound, turning to try and nip at Trace's hand. Trace just pulled away, sitting on his seat properly now and holding his hand over his glass, pointing a finger down and slowly spinning it in circles a few inches above the water. I watched the water swirl, slowly at first, before turning into a whirlpool. His lazy circles never sped up, but stirred the air to move the water in a cyclone. David huffed at him and nudged him again. "You're a bully." he said matter-of-factly. Trace just laughed at him, and waved his hand, suddenly swirling the air the other way and disturbing the flow of the water. When it settled, he took a drink and sighed. "I guess I should be nice to you on your birthday, huh? Alright, alright. I've got something for you, right here…" He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, folded card, handing it to David. "Don't show anyone else that, understand? Your eyes only." David nodded, opening it a little and looking from the card to Trace, then quickly folding it back up before putting it into his pocket and hugging Trace. When he let go, he looked over at the dance hall. "Trace, Trace, Trace, let's dance~!" he said with a giggle, pulling at Trace's arm. Trace rolled his eyes with a wild grin, standing up. "Can do, but don't go stumbling all over me!" He was about to take off with David before he looked at me. I'd sat back on my stool, watching the dance hall with a little worry. David's current state wasn't the best, his judgment would be pretty bad right now. If he got into any rough situations, he might not have the coordination or the strength of will to fight back, and there was no guarantee that even if he did, he'd win in his condition. If he- "Hey, R., you cool with me taking the little guy out for a dance or two? You know I'll keep an eye on him." Trace's voice broke my concentration and, thankfully, helped me relax a little. I smiled a bit, nodding. "Yeah, y'all go have fun. You got Davey th'rest'a th'night?" A nod from Trace and a giggle from David were all the answer I needed, but Trace was never one to shy away from a little extra. "Oh, yeah. I definitely have him for the night. I think we'll manage just fine." he said, winking at me.

If I was using it, it would be in a non-judgmental context, as there's plenty of fine anthrofiction out there that's basically zipperback (Exhibit A - Lackadaisy).

But I think writers sometimes write that without realizing they're doing so, so pointing it out can help them.
