#AntiBribery
I had to complete antibribery and corruption training at my work about a month ago, and can confirm that if I accept a gift from someone, then I don't have to have given an explicit quid pro quo at that point for it to fall into that category, even if that gift is an innocent half billion dollar jet

President Trump on Monday ordered a pause in the enforcement of a federal law aimed at curbing corruption in multinational companies, saying it creates an uneven playing field for American firms.

“The transformation of U.S. antibribery tools into economic weapons threatens to undo the global system the United States helped establish to punish business corruption,” warn @lorenzocrippa.bsky.social, Edmund Malesky, and Lucio Picci.

In abandoning the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Trump administration has exposed all U.S. international business to the demand of bribes and favors to obtain contracts—and introduced long-term fragility to U.S. trade relations, writes @richardmnephew.bsky.social.

From @wsj.com: President Trump’s pause on enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, a key U.S. antibribery law, has prompted concern in some quarters that the country's decadeslong effort to rein in corruption will be rolled back.
Despite Enforcement Pause, Ignoring Antibribery Law Still Raises Risks for Companies
Observers say enforcement of similar laws in other jurisdictions and the reputational risks for those seen to skirt the law should continue to motivate corporations to be compliant.

But rest assured... there will be no consequences ... one of the first thing Trump did after taking power in 2025 was to suspend and retool the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act... And here we are enjoying it's poison fruits. ... www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...

As shareholders of the company, the company is paying corporate assets - $16 mill. If that's being done as an intentional violation of law (i.e., antibribery laws), it's treated as a per se fiduciary breach.

entering high office should mean living on a public stipend for life and forfeiting all future payments. one should never hold another job afterwards. antibribery restrictions should be lifelong, even though the term of office is short.

Can someone explain why do this? Why reverse discounted insulin? Why eliminate FDIC protection for bank deposits? I don't understand the end game here, and I'm pretty intelligent.

Christianity Today, an evangelical magazine founded by Billy Graham in the 1950s and where I started my journalism career more than two decades ago, has been on a tear lately.

Inevitably, MAGA is melting down over much of its recent coverage.

Part of my profession life requires me to take foreign antibribery, anticorruption practices training. It could just be high level administrative FDA incompetence, but this has all the warning signs.

Apparantly Moderna reached an "accomodation" (nudge nudge wink wink $$$) with Felon Trump's FDA.

UK is well known as the butler for dirty money, etc., but their antibribery law is surprisingly strong on treating the extortee as a perp in certain circumstances, and many if not all of these firms have London offices.

That was explicitly part of his argument for suspending enforcement of the foreign corrupt practices act. He said it put our multinationals at a disadvantage against foreign multinationals not subject to antibribery laws

A problem: 9 of the 10 largest FCPA settlements were paid by non-US companies.
