I’ll never forget an interaction on Reddit that I had at the beginning of Biden’s term

It was in the r/antiwork subreddit that exploded during Covid

I replied to a simple statement: “I think Biden is as much of a fascist as Trump”

I ratioed them in up/down votes until they just deleted it

The way the air was sucked out of the room when my district manager told me she has store managers who are struggling financially and I replied "that says a lot about the company, then."

i was just wondering that. i described it as "anti-work" bc it has vaguely r/antiwork vibes, but, like, not like the vulgar leftist core r/antiwork membership, more like the people who follow the sub and commiserate with, support, or be angry together with posters complaining about their jobs

Socialists have been trying and failing to distinguish work from labor for over 150 years. In a footnote in Capital, Engels claimed "work" just means making use-values in general, while "labour" is specific to capitalist value creation. The modern anti-work people define things the opposite way.

Paying in scrip is not what the people on r/antiwork are talking about when they say wage slave. Scrip is severe exploitation akin to slavery.

If you want to talk about the kafala system, thai fishing boat impressment, or sharecroppers, I'll agree. But wage labor as a category is not slavery.

From r/antiwork: "Just walked out of an interview".

I did that once. Whoever was supposed to interview me was tied up elsewhere, and it was getting perilously close to my shift at my then-current job, so I just got up and left without a word. They did call later and asked what happened...

I didn’t get the job because I was the wrong gender. They paid me $50,000 a few weeks later
