Researchers demonstrated that non-Abelian anyons can perform universal quantum operations via braiding and fusion on a trapped-ion processor, potentially bypassing expensive magic state distillation in quantum error correction.

Nice for anyons and topological quantum matter
I'm trying to learn some basic category theory for quantum information, so I started reading "Categories for Quantum Theory" by Heunen and Vicary. It helps me to better grasp what category theory is really about since examples they give are all in my research area.

Not all about a 2D world is hypothetical and anyons have indeed been observed experimentally in artificial 2D systems in 2020. Here is an excellent article by

‘Milestone’ Evidence for Anyons, a Third Kingdom of Particles
Anyons don’t fit into either of the two known particle kingdoms. To find them, physicists had to erase the third dimension.

To continue on this, I thought I'd start with my understanding of Non-Abelian anyons.

Anyone with additional background or corrections can feel free to comment.

Non-Abelian anyons are "quasiparticles" which do not obey the basic boson or fermion statistics resulting from permutation of identities.
I'm going to attempt to explain Microsoft's Majorana 1 -- what it's purported to do -- while also doing a little public education on topological superconductors and what they are in concrete terms as much as possible.

See Fig. 1: nature.com/articles/s4158…

I'll pick this up in the morning. 🌄

In 1938, physicist Ettore Majorana bought a boat ticket to Naples,

& mysteriously vanished!

A folder that may shed light on the case was found recently, but forbidden to be opened until 2057.

In recent years, evidence has been accumulating for a third class of particles called ‘anyons’ which rewrite the rules for how particles move, interact, and combine. However, they’re theoretically possible only in 2D, so what kind of reality do they actually possess? if any at all?
