### Second independent Intel reproduction and managed-service test I’m adding a second independent reproduction from another Intel Mac, together with a controlled test that narrows the failure boundary. **Environment** * macOS 26.6.2 (25G83) * Intel `x86_64` * Personal, unmanaged Mac — no MDM * ChatGPT Desktop 26.901.51231, build 8109 * Bundle ID: `com.openai.codex` * Region: Azerbaijan * Bundled package: `@oai/sky` 0.6.26 The problem has reproduced consistently since July 26 across multiple ChatGPT updates, clean reinstalls, application restarts, Mac restarts, and permission resets. **Current user-visible failures** * Appshots / Double Command: `Unable to attach appshot` * Settings → Computer use → Locked use: `Unable to update Locked use` * Computer History: `Computer history could not be turned on. Restart ChatGPT, and try again` * The separate `Codex Computer Use` entry never appears under either: * System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording * System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility * The Browser plugin works normally on the same installation, account, and network **Controlled service-boundary test** On September 8, I temporarily configured the app-bundled `unified-computer-use` launcher as an optional STDIO MCP and started it with: CUA_REPL_ENABLED_SURFACES=computer I verified that the running process had the correct `computer` surface flag. The native Computer Use APIs were then exposed, but all first native calls failed immediately: cua.getState() cua.getApp("System Settings") cua.getApp("Calculator") Each returned: Sky Computer Use service startup request failed Reproduction timestamp: `2026-09-08T15:05:15Z`. No Computer Use app-approval dialog, Screen Recording prompt, or Accessibility prompt appeared. The temporary configuration was subsequently removed and the original configuration restored. **Packaging observation** Both of these installed components are native Intel binaries: /Applications/ChatGPT.app/Contents/MacOS/ChatGPT → Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64 /Applications/ChatGPT.app/Contents/Resources/native/sky.node → Mach-O 64-bit bundle x86_64 The bundled `@oai/sky` manifest references `SkyComputerUseService` and `SkyComputerUseClient`, but neither executable is present inside `/Applications/ChatGPT.app` or provisioned under `~/.codex/computer-use/`. This refines the original finding: the Intel build contains the native `sky.node` bridge, but the managed Sky Computer Use service still cannot be installed, provisioned, or spawned. It therefore does **not** appear to be explained by a disabled UI toggle or missing Screen Recording/Accessibility permission. The failure occurs before macOS can register the helper or request those permissions. This evidence does not yet distinguish conclusively between a packaging, provisioning, entitlement, region, or native-runtime defect. However, it does establish the failing boundary at managed Sky service startup. The current OpenAI Computer Use documentation describes macOS support and does not state an Apple Silicon-only restriction. In the Community thread “Misleading compatibility information for Intel Macs (Codex CLI vs ChatGPT Desktop),” OpenAI Support also confirmed Intel Mac support on macOS 14+. Could someone from the ChatGPT Desktop / Computer Use engineering team please confirm: 1. Whether this is now tracked as an Intel managed-service provisioning defect 2. Whether a corrected Intel package or provisioning change is planned 3. Which app version should contain the fix 4. Whether any supported diagnostic or workaround exists in the meantime If Computer Use is intentionally unavailable on Intel Macs, the app should not expose Appshots, Computer History, Locked use, and Computer Use controls without a clear compatibility message.
